Monday 6th April – Sunday 19th April
Two weeks since I last wrote anything, we are still under lockdown and tomorrow we will find out from the government the timeline for the next month, 5 weeks today since we started staying in, how time flies eh. I have taken up interesting hobbies such as spot the aircraft, we don’t nomally get that many over us but my busiest day so far has been spotting four, mind you I’m not out in the garden all the time so some will have slipped past, it is great to read how clean the air is, lets hope we get the message about the pollution we have been causing and after this is over make an effort to do something about it.
Over the Easter weekend the selfish and ignorant people mainly from the cities came to the villages to stay in their weekend chalets despite being told not to do it, they were very sneaky and came the day before the restrictions came into place, I bet they think they have been so smart, just making the life of health service workers even more difficult and placing risk on the older people here, their day will come….
We have planted our potatoes and onions, Maria has started the peas, broad beans, leeks, lettuce tomatoes and lots of flowers in the greenhouse, so all we need is good stable weather now, talking of which, last Tuesday 14th we had a very impressive snowstorm, I will include a picture of it..
We have also changed our winter tyres on the car for summer ones and waxed all the ski’s and snowboards, so that is the last of our after winter jobs done, it meant that we could clear up the basement and get out the mower and stuff for summer, we did have a very exciting time pruning the various berberis shrubs around the garden, the thorns are such fun to get out.
I have been thanking Maria for the fact that she has been making our bread for the last two or three years and now it is so welcome and delicious, the smell is too much some days, try cabbage and ham pie, that is definitely scumptious.
Last but not least we have started collecting flowers and herbs for drying to make tea, the cowslips are in abundance this year and it did not take too long to pick enough for us.
