Yep, this the time when we start to wind everything up and prepare for the winter, we have had a reasonable summer, bit too much rain but the garden has produced plenty and we have definitely done well from the countryside, we finished off our picking by going to the mountains, and in the Krivan area we picked loads of Cranberries about 10kgs, it was such a nice day and there seemed to be endless amounts of them this year.
The autumnal colours are amazing as usual and first thing in the morning the mist seems to hang from everything, I have to admit that in England I never enjoyed the autumn because it heralded the coming of winter and for us gardeners that meant cold and rainy months, here is not the same because it will get cold and then the snow will come, it is easier to deal with, just dress up and go out or sit by the woodburner and do whatever takes your fancy. The grasses look spectacular in the morning along with many other plants.
We were really sorry to learn that one of our neighbours in Uckfield in Sussex, our good friend Russ Miles had died, he was always ready to help anyone, was a great supporter of the rugby club and will be missed by all who knew him especially his wife Val and their family.
Lastly a picture of Maria doing her crocheting on the doorstep in the warm autumnal sunshine with our sheep looking pretty uninterested ….Till next summer
