Yes, it has definitely been very good but things are changing now and it always surprises me how quickly it happens here in the mountains, the temperature has dropped quite a bit at night.
Since I last wrote a post we have been out and about walking, we went to to Skalne Mesto which is under Velky Rozsutec to look at an area which Maria’s grandfather Milan Saradin took quite a few pictures of and I took some to compare them with his, here are just a couple of examples, his were taken in the 1950s and note the absence of forestry on the hillsides in comparison to now.
This is Maria under the pillar of rock that you can see in the other photos, we believe that Milan and his friends used to go here and climb most of the area.
Plus we went walking for six hours last week from Krasnany up to Maly Krivan then along the ridge and down through the forests below Kraviarske, I know that readers in the UK will not know these names but you can always look them up on the net if you wish to know more, we have planned to walk this route for ages and it was really worth it.
Other than that we have now finished picking fruit, this last month we managed 48litres of Blueberries, 9kg cranberries, 5-5kg Blackberries and 5kg Elderberries, we used some of each for jam and wine and the rest we froze or gave to Maria’s mum, her bees have done well but we are not extracting honey this year as she wants them to have plenty of food for the winter and hopefully each colony will expand, then we will get loads of honey next year….she did however take one frameĀ for us to sample and it was really good, it tasted quite strongly of flowers and everyone likes it so well done Maria and we are all waiting for next years harvest….
