Ok, so as I look out of the window this morning I can clearly see that Autumn has arrived and in this part of Slovakia, it really comes in style, the colours of the forests change overnight, it is as if they are saying farewell to the summer and lookout here comes the winter….
The Black caps have been clearing the last of the seeds from the Sunflowers, we have finished our clearing on the hillside for this year, now all we have to do is put the Bonsai specimens and any plants in pots away before the real frosts arrive. The first year we were here I lost half of my Bonsai trees because I didn’t know how to protect them, now we put them in a empty coldframe or compost bin and cover the pots and the soil with sawdust or shavings and they are fine, just need cleaning off in the spring, a friend at the local nursery told us that he always did the same to his plants and it works, local people always know best eh!!!
This morning we helped plant an 8 metre high conifer tree next to some industrial buildings that belong to some friends, it was an interesting project to say the least and something we had not done before, although they were convinced we would know exactly what had to be done as we are the gardeners and as such know all about planting things, have to say that all things considered it looks pretty good, lets just hope in stays alive. Off to do a bit of hedge cutting at the local church tomorrow
